Goals of the project:​

  • Create series of postcard prints paying tribute to a summer in Maine

  • Experiment with new, minimalist illustration style inspired by Eric Carle

  • Animate each illustration, referencing the back and forth motion of the tide on the beach​​​

Design Direction

For this series I wanted to experiment with a newer and more minimalist illustration style inspired by Eric Carle. Keeping in mind his simplistic, cut out paper style, I restricted myself to only straight angles for each shape. For the color palette, I referenced an old Polish camping map cover illustration from1972.

Spending much of my Summer outside exploring the beautiful state of Maine, I wanted to bring each composition to life with animation. The back and forth horizontal motion was inspired by the flow of the tide on the Maine beaches.
